The Capital Compost Initiative is a community-driven effort to expand composting awareness and accessibility throughout the Capital District. Through free educational workshops at local libraries, community centers, and organizations, this initiative aims to empowers residents with the knowledge and practical skills to start composting—whether at home, in small urban spaces, or through local drop-off programs. By demystifying the composting process and highlighting available community resources, we aim to reduce food waste, enrich local soils, and support a more sustainable future. This project is a collaboration between Zero Waste Capital District, Sunray Sustainability, and the City of Albany’s Sustainability Commission, working together to make composting an easy and accessible choice for all.
